LF Re: Production
"What is a record producer? Not so easy to define these days, though by and large he/she is responsible for the overall sound of a project: A sonic equivalent to the film director role. And then there are producer / player / writers – and this is my natural domain...
My production methodology is often (though not exclusively) a collaborative affair, in which I take a creative role in the music making; contributing sound design and arrangements to the material. This may extend to performance, and/or selecting appropriate players to enhance a project.
Equally I take very seriously the understated yet critical role of audio restoration: By working meticulously with the raw data; cleaning up inevitable pops, clicks, and unwanted noise via precision spectral waveform editing I ensure that all recorded audio is presented at its best, thus contributing to a sharper overall 'image'.
Above all I'm a music lover with a broad palate, and keen to help artists vocalize their ideas in unique and appealing ways. Generally speaking what you won't get with me is a straightforward '1, 2, 3, go' approach – as I'm very much of the view that making a record is quite distinct from live performance, and should be embraced as a chance to create magic through experimentation and creative use of the studio; Performance skills alone do not automatically equate to a great record."
